PH Embassy: Employers are obligated to book ticket going to PH if employee is terminated

-

The Philippine Embassy in UAE answered some of the frequently asked questions of OFWs who are planning to go back home in the midst of coronavirus pandemic, including those who were terminated due to the crisis.

In a circular posted on Facebook, it asserted that if one is terminated, the employer is obligated to purchase a one-way ticket to the Philippines.

“Ito ay sang-ayon sa batas ng UAE. Maaring mag-book ang inyong employer sa Emirates Airlines or Etihad Airlines dahil may mga binuksan silang flights at binigyan sila ng pahintulot na lumipad sa Pilipinas,” the Philippine government agency wrote.

It added that OFWs who were recently terminated due to Covid-19 crisis don’t need to contact the Embassy of the Consulate about as these airlines have permission to conduct ‘special flights’ although there is an ongoing lockdown in Metro Manila and the entire Luzon.
