OFW in Dubai reveals what’s inside OWWA’s grocery package for Filipinos affected by Covid-19

As the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration facing a backlash from the social media after an OFW claimed that she was cussed by a welfare officer due to food assistance, a Facebook user posted an ‘appreciation post’ for the agency and revealed what’s really inside the grocery package.

Facebook user and Dubai-based Filipino Ana Zuzane, posted her ‘appreciation post’ because she was seeing negative posts lately against the Philippine agency.

From she has posted, the following aree included in the package:

2 – 5 kilos of Rice
2 Kilos of Pasta
2 Packs of Spaghetti Sauce
2 Boxes of Black Tea
2 Packs of Dried Fish (Tuyo)
1 Bottle of Shrimp paste (bagoong)
2 Dozens of Coffee (3 in 1)
2 – 300 grams of Birch Tree Milk
2 Kilos of Sugar
1 Bottle of Vinegar
1 Bottle of Soy Sauce
6 pcs of Yakisoba
6 pcs of Sardines
6 pcs of Century Tuna
8 pcs of Argentina
6 pcs of Condensed Milk
4 pcs of pork & beans
4 pcs of Boy Bawang
4 pcs of Ding Dong
4 packs of Rebisco Biscuit

As of this moment, OWWA provides food assistance or grocery package to Filipinos whose work has been affected by Covid-19 and are on ‘no work no pay’ policy. The package is worth AED 200 or 300, depending on the OWWA membership status.

Requirements to get the grocery package are passport copy, visa copy, letter from the company or proof that one is suspended from working due to the pandemic, downloadable request form and OWWA membership.

These requirements must be sent via email dubai@owwa.gov.ph or WhatsApp +971 50 558 5536.

“Once OWWA received your application, wait until they verify your documents and they will call you to ask some questions. They have processed mine after a week, medyo matagal pero worth it naman po and kaunting hintay lang po kasi madami nag-apply,” Ana wrote.

She also noted that once everything is settled, an OWWA officer will inform the receiver to go to the nearest Westzone Supermarket to claim the package.

“Westzone will call you once the grocery package is ready to be picked up,” Ana added.

Those OFWs who have been terminated due to Covid-19 are eligible for the cash AED730 assistance. To avail this, please visit POLO Dubai’s website.
