Dubai uses CCTV cameras to monitor body temperature and social distancing

-

As part its preventive measure to combat the spread of the new coronavirus, Dubai has started to use CCTV as a means to monitor people’s body temperature and alert the authorities if they’re violating social distancing in public places.

“Dubai Police use AI through the ‘Oyoon’ (eye in Arabic) project to monitor people’s temperatures during the outbreak,” Brig Khaled Nasser Al Razooqi, Director General of the Artificial Intelligence Department of Dubai said in a Gulf News report.

The CCTV cameras was initially used to detect wanted people through facial recognition and behavioral analysis.

The hybrid cameras can detect people violating social distancing rules by standing too close to each other and report to the Dubai Police.

“We are working to use the cameras to analyze the distance between people as AI can detect people come closer than they should to each other,” he added.
