The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Health (DOH) are given by President Rodrigo Duterte one week to let 24,000 OFWs waiting in quarantine facilities in Manila to go to their respective provinces.
As reported previously, thousands of OFWs have completed the 14-day mandatory quarantine in quarantine facilities in Manila after being repatriated, however, most of them have not yet been released.
“Sabi po ng Presidente, ang mga ahensiya ng gobyerno ay authorized to use all resources of the government and authorized to use all modes of transportation–buses, airplanes, and ships–para mapauwi na po itong 24,000 na ating mga kababayan,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a press briefing.
He added that OFWs should not experience more difficulty in the country after spending years working and living abroad.
“Hindi katanggap-tanggap sa Pangulo ang matagal na proseso na naka-quarantine na OFW,” he said.
