Cancios Restaurant in Dubai, partnership with the Filipino Institute, has distributed more than 50 pack meals and other essentials for displaced overseas Filipino workers and non-Filipinos living in Al Rigga, Deira.
The restaurant, which can be found beside Al Maya Supermarket, has started distributing to Filipinos in the are around 5:30pm. Meanwhile, the Filipino Institute has also given essentials, such as detergent soaps from Unilever Gulf and pastries from Eurocake to the residents in need.
“This is just a small act, we hope we were able to help our kabayans in need,” Elvie Cancios, owner of the Filipino-Mexican restaurant, said.
For his part, Mr. Gabriel John Rimando, president and founder of the Filipino Institute, said that their aim is to somehow help the residents in need in these trying times.
“Now that majority of UAE residents are on no-work-no-pay scheme, we wanted to help them by giving small things. Hopefully, we can still be able to help more in the future,” he added.
Most of the beneficiaries of the pack meals and essentials are those who have been terminated on no-work-no-pay scheme.
