Over 200 Dubai residents fined in one day for not following social distancing in beaches

More than 200 residents in Dubai have been fined by the Dubai Police for failing to comply with Covid-19 measures to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.

According to Col. Saeed Al Madhani, director of Ports Police Station in Dubai, the total number of beach-goers who have been fined since they reopen beaches in May has now totaled to 316 after recording 221 on Friday.

“Many Dubai beaches witnessed thousands of beach-goers since easing the measure. We noticed many of them insist to sir neat the beaches’ facilities without adhering to safe distancing,” he told Gulf News.

As per earlier reports, people who will be found not following safe distancing and not wearing masks will be fined with AED3,000.

“In first week of reopening, officers spoke to people about the importance of complying with eh safety and health instructions, including keeping a safe distance and wearing face masks at all times if they were not in the water,” Al Madhani said.
