After a video on Facebook has gone viral showing a group of OFWs scouring trash for food, the Philippine Ambassador to Saudi Arabia released a statement on Twitter, saying that he’s disappointed with them who have resorted to theatrics to catch attention.

“If reports reaching me are true, I’m disappointed with some of our people who have resorted to theatrics to catch attention. Fact is food assistance was given. Mamulot ng basura? C’mon!” Ambassador Adnan Alonto writes in a tweet.

In the viral video, it features a group of skilled workers in Riyadh who were terminated due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The video, which was reported on ABS-CBN news on June 18, was taken by Reymond Zaragosa and Donald de las Alas. They are seen in the video getting left-over food from a trash bin. According to them, they scour fruits and vegetables to eat.

They are 10 in the group and was divided into two to collect food from the big trash bins.

The skilled workers haven’t gotten their salary for almost four months now.

According to them, they have received food packs from the Philippine Overseas Labor Office but the aid wasn’t sufficient enough.

They are also complaining about their company because apart from not getting their salaries, they also haven’t received their leave benefits.
