An overseas Filipino worker in Abu Dhabi paid tribute to her mother who served as their father as well for over 25 years.

Rodelyn De Vera shared on The Global Filipino Magazine that her mother, Helen Cawille De Vera, is currently in Japan and has stage 4 lung cancer.

In a video shared to us, she mentioned that her father died in July 1995. And five months after the death of her father, her mother went to Singapore to work as a domestic helper. She then worked as a cleaner in Belgium for three years and is now in Japan as a cleaner.

De Vera, who has three siblings, said that her mother defied all odds to make ends meet and finish their studies and give a better future.

Madaming why and what if,” De Vera wrote in the video.

Helen was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in 2019 but she still works to provide for her family.

Currently, she undergoes treatment paid for by her employers in Tokyo.
