Some OFWs are being barred from entering their provinces despite being Covid-19 negative

-

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) revealed that a number of returning Filipinos are being barred by the Local Government Unit (LGU) despite showing Covid-19 negative certificate.

According to a Manila Bulleting report, government bodies, such as the OWWA, become helpless in reasoning out with LGU officials as the latter insists that they have the authority to protect their localities from Covid-19 threat and are protected by the local autonomy provisions of the law.

TUCP Partylist Rep. Democrito Mendoza, chairman of the House Committee on OFW, said that if President Rodrigo Duterte can just speak to the political leadership of LGU, maybe this matter will be resolved.

At least 70,533 returning Filipinos have been repatriated while 21,107 are ready to go home.
