‘Heavy rain advisory’ sent to 16 cities in Taiwan as tropical storm draws nearer

- Advertisment -

The weather agency in Taiwan has expanded its heavy rain advisory from 11 to 16 cities and counties across the country as tropical storm Hagupit moves closer to the country and gains strength and size.

As of 11 am (local times), the tropical storm was located 150 kilometers east-northeast of Keelung City, moving in a north northwesterly direction at a speed of 22 km per hour toward China, carrying maximum sustained winds of 90 kph, with gusts of up to 119 kph, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) announced.

The weather agency also added that Hagupit is expected to both strengthen and expand on Monday, bringing heavy rains to the northern half of Taiwan and mountainous areas in the country.
