New international airport in Bicol now at 67% completion after 11 years of delay

-

After 11 years of delay, the Bicol International Airport (BIA) in Daraga, Albay, is now more than halfway through completion, with 67.07 percent overall progress rate.

The Package 2A of the project, which covers the construction of landside facilities and other buildings, is now 79.58% complete. Meanwhile, the Package 2B, covering the construction of the PTB and runway extension, as well as the construction of the taxiway, drainage, and other site development works, is now 36.29% complete.

Eyed for completion within the year, the airport is envisioned to be the key in positioning, not just the province of Albay and the region of Bicol, but the whole country, to become an economic powerhouse.

Further, the airport is expected to serve two (2) million passengers annually, which will boost air traffic and tourist arrivals in the region.
