Additional P5-billion fund to help OFWs approved by Pres Duterte

- Advertisment -

President Rodrigo Duterte has recently approved the additional P5-billion fund to further help Filipinos abroad amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to labor secretary Silvestre Bello III, a huge part of the fund will go to the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) AKAP program which aims to provide AED730 to displaced OFWs.

According to recent data provided by the Philippine Overseas Labor and Office (POLO) in Dubai, they have already received over 80,000 cash aid applications but allocations were only for 22,000 based on their budget.

“I have directed our POLO to accelerate the processing of the assistance so that a greater number of our OFWs will benefit soonest from the aid coming from our government,” Bello said.
