Renowned Filipino sand artist in Dubai Nathaniel Alapide was recently called to collaborate with British fashion company Burberry to carve the brand’s monogram in the desert.
The Filipino self-taught artist is well known in the country for creating massive sand paintings along the beach, including the recreations of Mona Lisa and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
“If you create something in the desert, it will cover it up — it has the ephemeral nature to it. The desert is unforgiving. But when you go out into the desert, it is always a collaboration with nature,” he told The National.
