Wearing face mask in Beijing, China no longer mandatory

The capital of China, Beijing, announced that residents can now go mask-free as it records zero Covid-19 cases for 13 consecutive days.

According to a Reuters report, despite the new ordinance, several residents continued to wear masks, especially in public.

“I think I can take off my mask anytime, but I’ll need to see if others accept it. Because I’m afraid that people would be scared if they see me not wearing a mask,” a resident said.

The country has recorded zero locally transmitted cases on the mainland for five days after successfully containing flare-ups in the capital.
