Private group in Philippines working on cheaper saliva test to detect Covid-19

- Advertisment -

A private sector in the Philippines is working to bring the antigen saliva test for faster and cheaper detection of the new coronavirus.

Project Antibody Rapid Test Kit said that countries like Israel and San Francisco are currently doing it. A person suspected of Covid-19 or residents who want to know if they have the virus just need to spit in a kit to detect if they have the virus.

“Itong saliva test, puwedeng gawin araw-araw kasi $1 (around P50) lang yata. So, you can test before you go to school, before you go out, bago ka pumunta sa opisina. Game changer talaga ito kung maipasok sa Pilipinas,” Project ARK’s medical team leader Dr. Minguita Padilla said at the Laging Handa public briefing.

The test detects Covid-19’s strand by tracing the presence of proteins that are found in the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the same virus that causes Covid-19.
