The Filipina cashier who was on duty where the gas explosion happened in Abu Dhabi has been confirmed dead. The family member confirmed in a Facebook post.
Harriette Abuyabor Bartoces, the aunt, said that they were contacted by the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi, confirming that Merriner Bartoces was among the casualties in the explosion.
Merriner was covered with debris due to the explosion that caused by a gas leak.
“Kami po ay taus pusong nagpapasalamat sa lahat po ng tumulong. Sa mga kaibigan ko, sa mga taong kahit di namin kakilala ay nagpaabot ng tulong sa pamamagitan ng pagshare, paghanap ng info sa hospital, sa police at embassy at sa lahat po na nagreachout, maraming maraming maraming salamat po,” she wrote.
The Abu Dhabi Media Office yesterday confirmed that two people died at the gas explosion in the capital. The blast has been reported at about 10:15 am.
In a series of photos shared by netizens, the ground floor of the building was destroyed.
“Unfortunately, two victims lost their lives – one near the site of the incident, and a second passer-by who was hit by debris,” Abu Dhabi Government Media Office said.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to their families, God rest their souls.”
The Philippine Embassy has earlier announced that it will help those Filipinos affected by the blast.
“The embassy is on the alert and ready to extend assistance,” the circular noted.
