Dubai resident with COVID-19 gets AED50,000 fine for breaking home quarantine

- Advertisment -

A resident in Dubai was recently arrested by the Dubai Police for deliberately breaking home quarantine.

According to a press release, the Dubai Police arrested a ‘young man’ for failing to self-isolate as part of Covid-19 protocols.

The authorities have also seen the unnamed individual publishing a video clip on various social media platforms, confirming he has the virus while buying a cup of coffee.

“The Dubai Police have arrested a young man for failing to self-isolate against coronavirus, deliberately breaking related regulations and laws, and for publishing a video clip on social media platforms in which he confirmed his infection with the virus and went out to buy coffee, thus endangered his life and the life of others,” Dubai Police said in a statement.

The man has been fined with AED50,000 and is now being charged per Article 31 of the UAE’s cyber-crime law, which states that the encouragement of going against the laws and regulations of State through publishing information shall be punishable with imprisonment and/or a fine of AED200,000 to AED1,000,000.
