The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is including some 4,000 displaced overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Eastern Visayas under the Abot Kamay ang Pagtulong (AKAP) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
According to OWWA Eastern Visayas Head Sergio Borguetta, the new batch of beneficiaries are part of the 6,153 applicants under the program. “These are initially approved applications and the rest are sill under assessment and evaluation of the agency,” he said in a statement.
A total of 1,874 qualified OFWs in the region have already received the cash aid as of September 7. Some 1,200 applications are approved for release this week, and the rest are expected to be released by October or November.
“Recipients will be notified via text message once the money is ready for release in a designated remittance centre,” he further added.
The cash assistance program is being given to OFWs who work has been affected by the pandemic.
