Many dead fishes washed up on the shore of the ‘beautified’ Manila Bay today after heavy rains.
According to Baseco resident and Urban Poor Associates leader Regine Nequia, that waters turned white and dead fishes floated.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) went under fire from green groups and government officials after dumping dolomite sand, which typically used in construction.
According to the agency, the move was to beautify the place.
“Why not focus on dolomites getting washed off? The photo with garbage is not caused by the government’s decision to put white sand but by irresponsible individuals,” one comment read.
“Baka naman sinadya yan pagtapon ng mga patay na isda diyan, alam niyo naman sila gagawin ang lahat masira lang yung ginagawa ng gobyerno ngayon,” one wrote.
