‘Happiest place on earth’ axes 28,000 employees due to pandemic’s impact on business

Disney, known to have the happiest place on earth, is going to terminate around 28,000 employees due to the impact of Covid-19 in its business in California.

Walt Disney Company’s Chairman of Parks, Experiences, and Products Josh D’Amaro said that the company has made a ‘very difficult decision to begin the process of reducing’ its workforce.

Part of the redundancy was the ‘limited capacity’ caused by physical distancing requirements.

Citing a report from Fox Business, it reveals that California had implemented various restrictions that made it impossible for the entertainment park to reopen as of posting time, a decision which the D’Amaro states has exacerbated the state of the theme park and its employees.

“Our Cast Members have always been key to our success, playing a valued and important role in delivering a world-class experience, and we look forward to providing opportunities where we can for them in return,” he said.
