A UAE-based Filipina has recently bagged the ‘Highly Commended Plumbing Engineer of the Year’ award at the recently concluded Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing (MEP) Middle East Award 2020.
Senior Public Health Engineer Jessica De Torres shone in the field that is dominated by men.
MEP Middle East Awards annually recognizes various individuals and companies who have made exemplary contributions to the sustainable development of the construction landscape in the Middle East.
“I have been in this practice for almost 10 years and this is the first time I have ever received such as award. Being nominated is already huge but being awarded High Commended of the Year is way more meaningful to my career and as a woman. It is overwhelming to be recognized for my hard work in the recent career that I am very passionate about,” she was quoted as saying by The Filipino Times.
After getting the award, she said that women can definitely succeed in whatever field they choose even if it’s dominated by men.
“Gender dominance in the industry can serve as an inspiration for us women to work hard. As a woman, I know I can impart my knowledge and make a huge difference in this industry,” he further added.
