UAE doctors advise residents to expose banknotes to sunshine to kill Covid-19

Doctors in the UAE said exposing banknotes to sunshine might be a way to kill Covid-19 through paper currencies.

“The virus is very fragile to ultraviolet and we have plenty of that in the UAE. Exposing the banknotes to the sunshine is going to kill all the germs and coins can be washed with soap and water or sprayed with alcoholic solution,” Dr. Cyril Noel, Head of Emergency Services at Medcare Hospitals & Medical Centres told Khaleej Times.

He further added that if handling cash becomes unavoidable, it’s still better to wash one’s hands after touching it.

“Carrying a hand sanitizer in the form of a small spray of towels is very useful,” Noel said.

He urged residents to be cautious but not overly scared when handling cash.
