Red Cross stops providing free Covid-19 tests for OFWs due to P1.5-billion PhilHealth debt

Humanitarian organization Red Cross has stopped providing free swab tests yesterday for returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Manila due to PhilHealth’s P1.5 million debt.

Red Cross has stopped conducted the Covid-19 test since yesterday for OFWs and medical frontliners and others covered by the expanded screening of the Department of Health (DOH).

Meanwhile, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) assured that tests will continue for arriving OFWs. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will still be collecting swabs from returning OFWs.

As it tries to resolve issues with the humanitarian organization, the DOH has tapped eight hospitals for the testing requirements.

The hospitals are Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital; Las Piñas General Hospital and Satellite Trauma Center; Lung Center of the Philippines; PNP Crime Laboratory; Research Institute for Tropical Medicine; San Lazaro Hospital; Ospital ng Imus; and Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital.
