The Philippine government has assured returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) that Covid-19 testing will remain free despite the delays in the result.
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is not encouraging the returning OFWs to pay for their own swab test.
In a statement, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is exhausting all efforts to get the results processed through the help of 17 national and government laboratories.
Last week, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has stopped giving free Covid-19 to returning OFWs after PhilHealth failed to settle its almost 1-billion outstanding balance.
Currently, there are more than 6,000 OFWs stranded in quarantine facilities due to testing backlogs.
Despite the delays, the government assured them that testing, accommodation, and food will remain free.
