The Department of Transportation (DOT) clarified that returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) need not to pay any amount for the Covid-19 test.
Contradicting Philippine Red Cross’ Sen. Dick Gordon, the DOT said that the ‘allegations’ circulating online that OFWs are made to pay more for Covid-19 are not true.
“OFWs need not spend any amount for the Covid-19 test since Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) covers their expense,” it said, adding that the result of the test normally takes about two to three days.
Non-OFWs have two options when they arrive at the airports. There are two private laboratories who are catering to the PCR test: one is the Philippine Airlines (PAL) and its partner Laboratory, Detoxicare for Terminal 2; second is with the Philippine Airport Ground Support Solutions, Inc. (PAGSS) with partner Laboratory Ph Airport Diagnostic Lab for Terminal 1 and 3.
Both facilities charge fee of P4,000 as approved by the Task Group on Management of Returning Overseas Filipinos (TG MROF), and issue results within 48 hours.
“All transactions with the private laboratories are covered by official receipts and are properly accounted, recorded, and reported with the One-Stop-Shop (OSS).
