The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has resumed giving free Covid-19 test after the state insurance PhilHealth settled half of the almost P1-billion debt.
The testing will resume at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, PRC testing laboratories are expected to reopen today.
“We embarrassed our entire country. Hindi naman kami sugapa. Sundin nyo lang yung contract,” Sen. Richard Gordon, the chairman of PRC, was quoted as saying by ABS-CBN News.
“Ang tao ang iniisip namin eh, to help save lives,” he added.
The PRC stopped giving free Covid-19 test to returning OFWs after PhilHealth pay its almost a billion-peso debt.
According to Gordon, they will stop the testing program should Philhealth fail to pay for the new tests strictly 3 days after each swab test.
“I will not risk the organization again. Hindi na ako papayag na lalaki na naman ang utang,” Gordon said.
The state insurance sent PRC a P500 check nearly two weeks after the Covid-19 testing organization suspended its services.
