A family member of the domestic worker who was physically abused by a top official in the Philippine Embassy in Brazil has finally broken her silence.
The household service worker was identified as a 50-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW). In the CCTV footage revealed by a Brazilian media outfit, she has repeatedly been assaulted by the Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro.
“Wala siyang awa. Kawawa naman yung kapatid ko. Ginaganyan niya. Dapat siyang makulong. Sabi ko po grabe naman, bakit ginanyan mo kapatid ko? Pareho pa naman kayong Pinoy, kawawa naman,” the sister, whose name was witheld, told 24 Oras on Wednesday.
She revealed that her sister has already mentioned to them the bad treatment she has receiving from her employer.
The household service worker was also planning to go back to the Philippines in April. Her passport was also not with the domestic helper.
Besides physically abusing her, according to the sister, she was also not allowed to use mobile phone and go out of the official residence of the envoy in Brazil.
President Rodrigo Duterte has already given the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to conduct a thorough investigation regarding the issue.
