An expatriate in Dubai was recently arrested for selling stolen face masks worth AED8,400 to a Filipina owner of a medical supplies company.
As it turned out, the 43-year-old Indian expatriate is a warehouse keeper at the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).
He lost his appeal at the Dubai Court of Appeals and was ordered to pay a AED8,400 fine.
The man was found to steal 28 boxes of face masks between May 31 to June 11 this year with each box containing 100 packs of face masks.
“I knew he worked as a warehouse keeper at DHA. So I reported him to his supervisor as soon as he tried to sell me the face mask,” the Filipina said.
The Filipina businesswoman worked with the local police. She paid the Indian man AED8,400 in marked money and the latter was arrested after receiving the cash.
He was found guilty of theft, damage to the public interest, and embezzlement.
