An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Taiwan was slapped with a $3,540 or around P168,000 fine for breaking the country’s quarantine rules.

According to an report, the Filipino in Kaohsiung, Taiwan stepped out of his quarantine room for only eight seconds. He was under the mandatory 14-day quarantine in a hotel. A hotel staff caught the Filipino violator through a surveillance camera.

Citing a report posted by the Central News Agency, the man left his room to drop off something for a friend who was also staying on the same hotel floor.

Between November 1 to December 5, nine foreign migrant workers were caught violating the quarantine rules.

A fine between New Taiwan Dollar NT$100,000 to NT$1 million will be imposed for those who will break the quarantine guidelines.

The country, as of this writing, has 716 Covid-19 cases with seven deaths related to the virus.
