Expat loses job in Dubai due to pandemic, wins $1-million on raffle draw

An Indian expatriate in Dubai who lost his job due to the Covid-19 pandemic has recently won himself $1 million on a local raffle draw.

Abu Dhabi-based and 30-year-old Navaneeth Sajeevan won a million dollars at the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionnaire and Finest Surprise Promotion.

Living in the UAE for four years now, the father of one’s last working day would be on December 28.

He told Khaleej Times that he has no plans yet for his future in the UAE.

“I might go back to India for a short break. We haven’t gone to Indian in two years,” he said.

“I just came from a job interview and to receive this call from Dubai Duty Free is totally unavailable,” he further added.

The Indian expat is the 171st Indian national to win the coveted $1 million since the start of the raffle draw promotion in 1999.

“Usually, I always buy the Abu Dhabi Big Ticket. I have been buying those tickets for three years. This time, I saved up for two months and purchased the Dubai Duty Free ticket for the first time,” Sajeevan said.
