Ice cream in China tests positive for coronavirus

China found its ice cream to be contaminated with the deadly coronavirus after three samples tested positive for the virus.

The ice cream was produced by Tianjin Daqiaodao Food Company. The local authorities are now tracing people who may have been in contact with the batches.

According to a, report, all of the company’s products have already been sealed and contained.

Initial investigations suggest that the firm produced the batch of ice cream using raw materials, including milk powder imported from New Zealand and whey powder purchased from Ukraine.

“It is likely this has come from a person, and without knowing the details, I think this is probably a one-off. Of course, any level of contamination is not acceptable and always for a cause of concern, but the chances are that this is the result of an issue with the production plant and potentially down to hygiene at the factory,” Dr. Stephen Griffin, a virologist based at the University of Leeds was quoted as saying in the report.
