‘Hindi ganun kadali sa umpisa’ Former OFW janitor now a restaurant owner in Australia

- Advertisment -

After working as a janitor for years, a Filipino in Australia has become a successful restaurateur at the age of 25.

John Andrew Dangca, told GMA’s State of the Nation, that he was only 19 when his relatives brought him to Australia.

Inexperienced, he took on cleaning jobs in hotels, malls, homes, and offices to help provide for his family. He was also juggling his cleaning jobs with his studies.

After securing a diploma course, he applied as an assistant at an aged care facility while still working as a cleaner.

“Maraming mga pagsubok katulong nung nakakatulog po ako doon sa train station. Dire-diretso po ako noon papunta sa kabilang trabaho, ganya. Sa bus, nakakatulog po. Parang doon na rin po ako nakakapagpahinga,” he said.

Through dedication and determination, the former janitor was able to bring the rest of his family members to Australia.

Dangca was also able to save up enough money to start his Filipino restaurant in Canberra called Salu-Salo.

“Hindi po talaga ganun kadali sa umpisa. Mararanasan natin yung mga failures, yung mga challenges, pero sa bandang huli, makakamit po yun,” he said.
