Authorities in Oman announced a mandatory institutional quarantine for all visitors arriving at its airport starting Monday, February 15. A directive from the Civil Aviation Authority was sent to all airlines operating in the Sultanate in an effort to limit the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

According to the circular, all airlines must ensure that all travelers have to have pre-confirmed hotel reservations at their own expense for at least seven nights.

Passengers arriving in the country may book their accommodation at any hotel or take advantage of the list of hotels prepared by the authorities for the purpose.

The new and revised travel guidelines for tourists, according to local officials, is taken due to the failure of individuals to follow the precautionary measures set to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

The ministry earmarked six hotels in Muscat alone where visitors may avail of institutional quarantine:

-Swiss-Belinn Muscat
-Ibis
-Secure Inn
-Sheraton
-Tulip Inn
-Somerset Panorama Muscat
