Three months after getting recalled from Brazil for abusing her own Filipino housemaid, former Philippine Ambassador Marichu Mauro has been officially dismissed by President Rodrigo Duterte, meaning she is now disqualified from holding public office or from entering the civil service.
“I signed the document affirming the decision. The decision metes out the penalty of dismissal from service with the accessory of penalties,” Duterte said during his weekly televised address on Monday, March 1.
He said he signed the paper the day before.
The presidential dismissal also forfeits her retirement benefits.
Mauro was recalled from Brazil last October 2020 following her video footage surfaced, physically abusing her Filipina helper.
The high-ranking diplomat was seen on CCTV striking her 51-year-old housemaid and grabbing her by the hair and ear.
