Illegal fundraisers in UAE to get up to AED500,000 fine

Authorities in the UAE have issued a warning against illegal fundraisers ahead of the holy month of Ramadan. Individuals who will be caught violating the law could be fined between AED250,000 to AED500,000

The Abu Dhabi Police said scammers prey on people’s religion and empathy, warning that illegal charities are punishable in the country. 

Citing Article 27 of Federal Decree-Law No. 5 of 2012, it delineates that anyone who creates, manages, or supervises one of these false charities could be slapped with up to AED500,000 fine. 

It urged residents to give their donations only via approved charitable institutions.
