Dubai tourists caught with bags of marijuana, claims it was packet of bananas

A Dubai tourist was caught with a large amount of marijuana at Dubai Ariport. He claimed he thought it was a packet of bananas.

The African man was referred to court where he said that a compatriot had given him the bag–supposedly containing bananas–to deliver to a person in the country, in exchange for paying his travel expenses and helping him find work in the UAE.

Citing the Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm, the Dubai Criminal Court did not believe in his claims. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined AED50,000.

The man arrived at terminal 3 at Dubai Airport last November. Officers at the airport, while scanning his luggage, noticed suspicious bags.

Customs found two large packages which were proven to be marijuana.
