Medical experts in the UAE highlighted that unvaccinated residents against Covid-19 are ‘at high risk’ to new Covid-19 variants detected around the world.
They are, however, encouraged to take the vaccine against the deadly virus as soon as possible.
“Some countries around the world have detected multiple mutations. However, their vaccination campaigns have helped control its spread to a large extent,” Dr. Farida Al Hosani, Official Spokesperson of the UAE Health Sector, said.
According to the new statistics released by the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP), nearly 90 percent of eligible residents aged 16 and above have already been vaccinated. Over 97 percent of elderly residents have received the jab.
As of June 15, the health authority in the country administered close to 13.9 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. This takes the rate of doses to 141.1 per 100 people, which is the highest in the world.
