Labor attaché welcomes OFF Workers free webinar

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates:  Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the UAE are “motivated enough” to take it to the next level through continuing education and skills trainings, said Labor Attaché, Atty. Felicitas Bay.

To this end, she said, an ongoing free weekly webinar dubbed, “Opportunity for Filipino Workers” (OFF Workers), is a welcome development.

“A free, engaging and interactive online learning platform with credible resource speakers is always good news for overseas Filipinos as this will enhance or complement their present competencies,” said the labor attaché.

She added: “OFWs are motivated enough – they enroll in professional development programs; they take special professional licensure examinations; they find time to upskill and reskill in various training institutions; and they aim for the appropriate certification.”

Bay said that what triggers OFWs’ motivation are personal growth and peer influence, “but I believe the primary reason is upward mobility coupled with professional development.”

“Education is a life-long process. One needs to continue or pursue education to usher his growth professionally, to reskill or to upskill.

“Overseas Filipinos must be prepared to face the challenges – the changing workplace environment, the growing demands of employers, the fast technological advancement and the increasing competitiveness in the global arena,” the labor attaché said.

OFF Workers focuses on delivering learnable skills and executable knowledge coming from 19 specialists known in their specific circles. It is being held on Fridays and Sundays at 1pm Dubai time.

This has been slated to culminate in a week-long trade fair in October this year, organizers said.

The topics are: leadership and entrepreneurship; e-commerce; freelancing; personal and visual branding; sales, persuasion and marketing; Facebook ads and email marketing; website development; productivity; and mindsets as well as mental health and strength

The first sessions kicked off on June 18.
