An official from the Department of Labor and Employment said that as of July 10, around 4,500 Filipinos in the UAE are currently stranded and seeking help from the Philippine government due to the imposed travel ban.
Director Alice Visperas of DOLE’s International Labor Affairs Bureau said that the estimated number is part of the 49,000 OFWs around the world who are ready for repatriation.
The Philippine government, according to its latest data, has already repatriated more than 600,000 displaced OFWs. Meanwhile, 75,000 others indicated that they wanted to go home, but changed their mind and opted to stay in their host countries.
The Philippine government has extended the ban on travel from the UAE until Sunday, August 1.
