Dubai visitor hides 49 cocaine capsules in stomach, gets 10 years sentence

- Advertisment -

A Dubai visitor who was caught hiding and trying to smuggle 49 cocaine capsules in his stomach has been fined AED50,000 and put 10 years behind bars.

According to reports, a man of African descent planned to sell the substance in the UAE. He will be deported after serving his jail term.

Citing investigation reports, the incident happened last year around May, when a customs inspector at Dubai Airport suspected the man as he inquired about the presence of any materials or items that he would like to disclose.

The man denied and upon checking his bags, no prohibited materials were found.

However, when the officer proceeded to scan him through an X-ray machine at the airport, the man admitted to having 49 capsules of cocaine in his stomach, weighing about a kilogram.

The African man admitted that a person from his homeland took advantage of his need for money. He was offered to smuggle 53 capsules of cocaine to Dubai via a transit flight wherein he dropped the four in the washroom at Dubai Airport.
