Cannes Film Festival in France is considered one of the most prestigious and most prominent international film festivals globally. Every filmmaker dream to be part of this grand event. This festival has previously recognized Filipino film, actors, and directors.

This year, another Filipino production excelled and showed its filmmaking skills to the world. A Pinoy film produced in the UAE was selected as one of the seven finalists for this year’s Cannes World Film Festival.

The UAE- based designer, turned director Francis Luscianne Javier Gacer, admitted that the whole Kikoman Films is still absorbing the fact that they entered the finals.

According to Gacer during his interview with GMA 7, the film’s title that the production submitted is entitled Angas (The Badass). The full-length movie was conceptualized based on real-life stories in the Philippines’ urbanized and congested areas.

“The storyline is my original creation. I have written the script, and it took us more than a month to flesh it out in shoots. And it took almost two months in editing because a lot of circumstances that came along the way hampered the processes,” he added during GMA 7 interview via messenger.

A day later, “Angas” was selected as a finalist at the Stockholm City Film Festival.

Several OFWs based in Dubai, including Joseph Binayao, Ron Jordan de Ocampo, Dee Asuncion, Jennelyn Empasis, Ben John Tamayo, Meljun Viloria, and Arianne Sebastian appeared in the film.
