A Facebook user, who we’ll call Mary, recently shared a hilarious experience on a Facebook community group for Filipino moms, Pinay Mums UAE.
Mary, her husband, and their child were out and about one day when they were mistaken for a nanny and her charges by a fellow kabayan.
“Yung kasama mo mag ama mo tapos tinanong ka ni kabayan ng: Matagal ka na sa kanila ate?” Mary wrote, using the hashtag #HaggardMomProblem.
To her surprise, many other members of the Facebook group related to her post, with one commenting, “Been there. Beh, ilang taon na yang alaga mo?” It seems that Mary’s experience is all too common among Filipino moms.
But the funniest comment came from another Facebook user who shared her own story: “Sa akin naman kasama mo anak ko sa playground sabi ni kabayan, uy yung alaga mo umakyat nadoon. Nasaan amo mo?” It’s as if being mistaken for a nanny is a rite of passage for Filipino moms!
One other Filipina in Dubai also related to the post: “Sa sa akin. Anong lahi ng parents ng anak mo kabayan? Nasa park kami nun ng anak ko. Sakto hind pa ako naliligo,” she laughed.
Despite the embarrassment that Mary and others have experienced, it’s clear that Filipino moms have a good sense of humor about the situation. And who knows, maybe one day Mary will be the one mistaking another mom for a nanny!
